FAMinternational’s Gatekeeping Program works at multiple levels—institutions, courts, and districts via the SCPE kindergarten—to ensure that every child grows up in a safe and nurturing family environment.

Gatekeeping at Institutions
We work alongside orphanages and care centres to trace children’s families and understand the circumstances that led to abandonment, abuse, or neglect. Our teams help centres develop life plans for each child, with the goal of preparing them for reunification with their biological families, whenever possible.
Gatekeeping at Courts
Trained and qualified social workers conduct thorough assessments of children involved in legal proceedings. This enables judges to make informed decisions in the best interests of the child, while demonstrating the critical need for a professional social workforce in child protection.

Gatekeeping at District Level – SCPE Kindergarten
Through our pilot SCPE kindergarten project, we provide early childhood care for vulnerable children at risk of abandonment due to poverty. At the same time, we support parents to access work and professional training, helping families achieve long-term stability.
Gatekeeping is the cornerstone of the continuum of care, linking children to foster care, adoption, family reunification, and family-strengthening initiatives. By working across these levels, we ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow up in a loving, protective, and supportive family environment.
